Kameko Shibata is a yogini Ayurvedic practitioner by day, and a fierce aerial performer by night.
Kameko brings her passion for human strength and grace into captivating performances that invite you to become radically present.
She specializes in dynamic aerial rope, inspired by the simple and stark nature of the apparatus. Inspired by the natural world, live musical collaborations, social justice story telling, site specific work, invented apparatuses, and warm beverages of all kind she uses performance as a invitation for deeper engagement with ourselves, each other, environment and community.
Kameko is an independent artist who’s been honored to collaborate with: Zaccho Dance Theatre, Karl Gillick Productions, Vaude De Virve Society, Quixotic Fusion, We Players, Metamorphosis Ballet, Fractal Tribe, Circus Mecca, Kinetic Arts and New Old Time Chautauqua. Notable performances include dangling wet from the SF bay in a 500 foot moving zipline in and out of the water for The Aerial Arts Festival, performing in front of 17,000 at the MGM Grand In Las Vegas, performing in roller skates for a local women’s roller derby championship and parading circus style thru soup kitchens. She has trained from bridges and trees, floating riggings, gritty warehouses and barns.
A lifelong mover she combines a kinetic fascination with her background in yoga, functional anatomy, massage, gymnastics, acrobatics, capoeira, and dance to create art that remembers we are animals : wild, raw and subtle.
She performs single rope, Spanish web , single or duo tissue and invented apparatus.
