Air Element (Vayu)

Air – matter in a gaseous state. Wind is responsible for the movement of all things. It is existence without form. Air is all about the movement of seeds, thoughts, ideas, communication. Air is the vehicle of wind which is adaptable, mutable (changing) , light, dry, rough. Air teaches us to forgive and forget. To move quickly and lightly into the unknown.

Qualities of the Air Element

Dosha: Vata (air + ether)

Sense Organ: Skin/touch

Gunas: light, dry, rough, mobile, cold, adaptable

Energetic pathway in hand:  index finger

Bija Mantra: Yam

Chakra: 4th- Anahata

Physical Qualities: Dry skin, hair, joints, light/thin-weight, bones, cool, light, irregular, drying, emaciating, nervous system issues, hyperactivity

Energetic Qualities: Unreliable, spontaneous, fast, witty, quick, active, changeable, impulsive, conceptual, intuitive, esoteric, superficial, chatty, multitasking, movement, hypersensitive, boredom, thin-skinned, A.D.D, too heady, thoughts, nervous, anxious, fidgety, disturbed prana deficient air- tightness in neck, shoulders, rigid muscles, jaw tension, headaches

Signs of weak Air Element:

Shortness of breath

Tightness in chest, neck, and stomach

Tightness in throat or inability to speak truth

Lack of creativity and inspiration, feeling stale.

Feeling heavy, dense, lethargic.
